In 2001, an important cultural project was launched in Reggio Emilia with the aim of integrating research and teaching of multidisciplinary skills and subjects related to communication, economics and business management. In this context, the Department's research to date has focused, among other topics, on the study of languages, strategic corporate communication, methodologies for the analysis, representation and management of data to support economic and public welfare decisions, and the digital transition of enterprises. On the one hand, research developments have led to innovative contents for innovative training, new teaching methodologies, and to framing new professional figures that can foster the competitiveness of enterprises and organizations. On the other, the department's Third Mission – a type of applied scientific research – is aimed at setting up and reinforcing collaboration with local stakeholders for sustainable growth and social and economic wellbeing.
